In my campaign i made peace with the huns so they just ignored me till 420 or so. The real pain at the start are the visigoths but if you fight defensively you should prevail and they will turn their attention to the west. But both the east and the west have excellent levy troops if you use them properly(hint:block your town square with infantry in testudos you will win even if you are heavily outnumbered as the ai will send their general in early to die). Yes you do start of at war with the huns, alans and visigoths, and the tanukhids are not so friendly either. (this advice is based primarily on normal/normal difficulty) So that's my 50 cents, and as your a total war veteran and new to the rome 2/atilla system i think ERE would serve as a good staring point to this system as well as a bit of a challenge to total war veterans. can have a very rough start, their levy units are awful, and their economies are quite weak. Honestly the smaller factions like the lakhmids, saxons, franks etc. With your economy you should be able to raise at least 2-3 decent stacks and that should set you up for the inevitable war with the sassanids(attack them at around 400-405 AD), I would recommend upgrading your military infrastructure in the east asap and also converting to paganism(awesome religious bonus). If you do decide to play them just make peace with the huns on the first turn(they should normally accept a white peace). They might be big but your political and public order situation is not bad at all. And the rest of their roster is really strong plus testudos!!!(your guardian angel during siege defenses)Ģ)Really solid economy from the start. That 5 per cent interest effect can really snowball into a huge income. This might be a bit unorthodox, but ERE is possibly one of the easiest factions, despite their 'very hard' stated starting difficulty and is really fun because:ġ) Jesus cavalry aka Tagmata cavalry.
